Treasures of Egypt and the Nile with Pam, Fall 2021

Join Pam and experience the timeless majesty of ancient Egypt, October 30–November 8, 2021. On this immersive, 10-day journey with Abercrombie & Kent, we’ll explore the Land of Pharaohs with an expert Egyptologist, cruising the Nile for four nights aboard the luxurious Sanctuary Nile Adventurer. Read on to learn more, or book your spot today!

Cairo and Giza: The Pyramids and The Sphinx

We’ll arrive in Cairo and get settled in our historic hotel, where the private balconies have views of the breathtaking Pyramids. After a visit to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities with our certified Egyptologist, we’ll spend a full day exploring the Giza Plateau, site of the pyramids of Mycerinus and Chephren, and the Great Pyramid, built in the Fourth Dynasty (approximately 2690 BC). We’ll have the opportunity to enter one of these legendary structures, marvelling at the massive stones used to construct them, then we’ll ride camels across the sand to the Great Sphinx, a structure that has captured the imaginations of adventurers for centuries.

Cruising the Nile, from Luxor to Aswan

From Cairo, we’ll fly to Luxor, site of the ancient city of Thebes, and start our first full day of sightseeing with a visit to the striking Luxor Temple, with its towering columns and statues of Ramses II. Then we’ll board the Sanctuary Nile Adventurer, an elegant river cruiser that will be our home on the river for the next four nights

Decorated in a contemporary style, the ship’s design combines modern Egyptian culture with 7,000 years of heritage. The Nile Adventurer offers 28 standard cabins, two junior suites and two presidential suites (which have private balconies). Each ensuite room features Nile views, air conditioning, a mini bar, an LCD television with satellite and a private bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Outside, there are extensive sun decks with elegant teak floors, a heated swimming pool, private cabanas, a shaded bar and a lounging terrace.

As we wind our way along the Nile, we’ll enjoy incredible meals prepared by an onboard chef. And we’ll be checking out some of the world’s oldest and most awe-inspiring sights. For instance:

  • The Necropolis of Thebes and Colossi of Memnon
  • The architecturally stunning Temple of Hatshepsut, ancient Egypt’s first female pharaoh
  • The Valley of the Kings, burial ground of pharaohs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • The Temple of Karnak, where generations of pharaohs recorded their names
  • The Temple of Khnum, renowned for its superb art and hieroglyphics
The Temple of Horus

Back on land in Cairo, we’ll drive to Sakkara, site of hundreds of tombs and 14 pyramids, including the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser. Then we can choose from one of several optional tours: “Discover Coptic Cairo,” “Discover Islamic Cairo,” or “Relax Aboard a Felucca” (viewing the city from a local’s perspective; sailing in a small craft). To wrap it all up, we’ll gather with our fellow guests for a farewell dinner, reflecting on an incredible journey.

Space is limited to 18 guests, so contact us to book your spot today! Prices start at $7,995 per person, depending on cabin (based on double occupancy) plus $685 Internal air per person. (Single Supplement starts at $2,595, depending on cabin)
